tarte Glamazon Pure Performance 12-hour Lipstick (in 5 colors)

Overall Rating

I hesitated to write about these lipsticks because they are only sold at tarte website and you can’t go into a store and try it (I’ve never seen a tarte store before). I bought all five of mine on Sephora but these lipsticks disappear and re-appear all the time there, so last time I checked they didn’t sell Glamazon. Anyway, I have them in five colors and really like them, so I want to share why.

This lipstick costs $16 and is advertised as a 12-hour performance lipstick. I have to say it’s one of the most long-wearing lipsticks I’ve had. It does truly stay on your lips for hours even if you eat and drink. Unlike lip stains, it’s very creamy. It’s creamiest when you just applied it and then, in five minutes or so, it dries out. tarte says the moisturizing effect of the lipstick is due to Amazonian clay. I have no idea how true that information is (sounds romantic though) but the lipstick does feel pretty good on my lips. It doesn’t have any sparkle and practically no shine but it does provide solid, even color. Also, the color doesn’t look unnatural (Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick problem) and doesn’t fade for a long time.

In two years I acquired Glamazon lipsticks in five shades: Graceful (rose), Enlightened (nude), Playful (purple rose), Inspired (dusty rose) and Pure (light rose).

Graceful is my favorite color: it’s muted rose color which suits perfectly my medium skin (and darker complexions too) and is good for both day and night. It’s not too light, not too dark – classic saturated rose. I almost always take it with me when traveling because it’s a universal shade.

Enlightened is a classic nude beige color. It’s much more saturated than Pure and will work very well as a part of brighter summer look.

Playful is dark rose with distinctive purple undertone. The color is very saturated and bold. When I wear it, I don’t do any eye makeup. This color is great for winter. Playful will work best for ladies with medium to dark complexion.

Inspired is very light nude rose. I like it for everyday use. This color will suit light to medium complexions and is great for office.

Pure is extremely light nude. A bit too light for me. In my opinion, it would be awesome for blonde ladies with fair complexion. I didn’t return it because I like the staying power of Glamazon but I see myself wearing it only in spring/summer as a part of super relaxed and undertoned look.

My one big complaint about these lipsticks is packaging. Yes, those wooden cases painted in the style of primitive art are very cool and unusual but they are so bulky and uncomfortable for everyday use! Glamazon lipsticks are at least 1/3 larger than any other lipsticks I have. Another big problem is that on couple of the tubes there are cracks in the wood (you can see that in the picture). And these are the lipsticks that I just got – they are brand new and already damaged/ The third issue is that cases feel rather fragile and simply poorly made. If they didn’t have such a great staying power and didn’t cost as low as $16, I’d never buy them just because of that packaging.

So, if you are okay with that packaging and are willing to trade it for great staying power for a relatively low price – then you should like Tarte Glamazon 12-hour lipstick. Overall, it’s a good, solid product that lives up to its name.
